We will shortly have some new arrivals here at Oakes Farm Shop as we are curently incubating some chicken eggs.
The incubator keeps the eggs at 99.5 degrees and slowly turns them so that the eggs are never resting for too long on the same side.
It takes a chicken 21 days to hatch and in the final days the eggs will start to shift about as the fetus becomes active. The chick will eventually peck a small hole in the large end of the egg and take its first breath.
We are expecting the first chicks to hatch next week, just in time for the start of the school holidays.
